The 11th annual Chanukah Concert

Dit seizoen presenteren De Waalse Kerk en The Jewish Music Concerts de Jewish Music Concerts Series. Deze concertreeks biedt een podium aan Joodse musici en muziek. Vier samen met de Joodse Gemeenschap van Amsterdam het lichtfeest op de vierde avond van Chanoeka. Een avond vol muzikale hoogtepunten uitgevoerd door het Jewish Amsterdam Chamber Ensemble samen met cantor Gábor Raáb en natuurlijk de ontsteking van de Chanoekia (de traditionele achtarmige kandelaar).

Het programma van dit jaar bevat een zorgvuldig samengestelde selectie van hoogtepunten uit onze afgelopen tien concerten, en biedt een rijke en diverse muzikale ervaring die zowel Joodse als niet-Joodse toehoorders zal aanspreken.

Gratis koosjere soefganiot (berlinerbollen) zijn inbegrepen in de ticketprijs.


This season, De Waalse Kerk and The Jewish Music Concerts proudly present the Jewish Music Concerts Series. This concert series provides a platform for Jewish musicians and music.
Join the Jewish community of Amsterdam in celebrating the Festival of Lights on the fourth night of Hanukkah. An evening filled with musical highlights performed by the Jewish Amsterdam Chamber Ensemble together with cantor Gábor Raáb and, of course, the lighting of the Hanukkiah (the traditional eight-branched candelabrum).

This year's program features a carefully curated selection of highlights from our past ten concerts, offering a rich and diverse musical experience that will appeal to both Jewish and non-Jewish audiences alike.

Free kosher sufganiyot (Berliner donuts) are included in the ticket price.

Gábor Raáb earned his degree in Vocal Performance in 2010 in Hungary, after which he continued his musical studies in London. He also studied as a scholarship recipient in Venice, Italy and Tel Aviv. Israel. As a soloist, he has performed at the Lucerne Festival under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. He has sang in numerous European countries and has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Leonard Slatkin, Péter Eötvös, and Iván Fischer.
He made his debut at the Szeged National Theatre in 2019, performing the role of Peppe in Pagliacci. At the world premiere of László Király’s Mindszenthy Oratorio, he sang the part of the Psalmist with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra. Under the direction of Judit Elek and the musical direction of György Melis, he appeared in the world premiere and subsequent concert film of And the Dead Sing Again….
Mr. Raáb is an active participant in Hungarian Jewish cultural life. He earned a degree in Judaic Studies from the National Jewish University and is currently pursuing studies in cantorial music. He has performed at numerous domestic and international cantorial concerts. He serves as cantor and prayer leader of the Jewish Community of Mosonmagyaróvár and was a regular performer at the Kiskunhalas Jewish Festival between 2005 and 2021.
In addition to his musical career and cultural service to the Jewish community, Mr. Raáb is passionate about teaching. Since 2012, he has been dedicated to sharing his musical knowledge and vocal expertise with his students.
